Dust Tactics League Play!! 05-27-2012


We took a break this weekend from the Gaming Store environment to enjoy some laid back games. We are still looking for a new Gaming Store to call home for our league, but Red Castle Games is high on the list since we already familiar with the environment and staff. With any luck we'll have a West side and East side location to increase our exposure and player pool!

So this week we finished up the Blue Thunder v2.0 Scenarios 5 and 6, Intrusion and Descent, respectively. Afterwards we placed some terrain and played 2 games of Dust Warfare! This time we were more familiar with the rules and had a much better experience with the game.

Scenario 5, Intrusion:

Justin v. John
  • Attacker:
    Justin - ALLIES: 250 points
    Bazooka Joe - Action Jackson - The Chef - Red Devils - Hell Boys - Hell Boys - The Boss - Wildfire - Wildfire
  • Defender:
    John - AXIS: 251 points
    Lara - Sigrid - Stefan - Heavy Flak Grenadiers - Heavy Recon Grenadiers - Laser Grenadiers - Recon Grenadiers - Sniper Grenadiers - Sturmpioniere - Heinrich - Luther
The Axis decided to defend 2 of the objectives in this scenario, leaving the third open for the Allies to gain. Turn 3 saw an Assault move from Stefan and his Sturmpioniere's to attack Chef and his unit of Hell Boys and dealt a decent amount of damage leaving Chef and the two flamethrowers alive. Before the end of turn 3 the Heavy Recon Grenadiers were able to position themselves to fire on the Boss Squad, fully eliminating that unit. In turn 4 the Allies were able to get some revenge with Chef and his remaining Flamethrowers eliminating Stefan and his Sturmpioniere squad. The Red Devils fell to the Heavy Recon Grenadiers, leaving Action Jackson barely alive to continue the fight. The Sniper Grenadiers also saw their end in turn 4. The Heavy Flak Grenadiers were eliminated at the beginning of Turn 5 when the Wildfire unleashed a sustained attack. Sigrid made an attempt to get into position to hurt Joe and his Hell Boys, but the plan backfired when the Joe and his squad were able to retaliate and eliminate the Laser Grenadiers, and seriously hurt Sigrid. The Heavy Recon Grenadiers were also eliminated, leaving a severely hurt Lara behind. In Turn 6 the Axis started to position their walkers around the last remaining objective to prevent the Allies from winning the scenario before turn 8. Lara was able to get an attack off on Action Jackson, eliminating the Hero in the process. The Allies exacted their revenge by eliminating Sigrid, Lara, and the Recon Grenadier before the end of Turn 6. The Luther opened up Turn 7 by taking shots at Chef and his Hell Boys, and successfully killed the hero, but left one flamethrower alive which retaliated with it's own attack to destroy the Walker, and opening a path to the objective. Joe and his Hell Boys were able to accomplish the same goal by eliminating the Heinrich Light Walker before Turn 7 was over. The Allied units had just enough movement points with Joe and his Hell Boys to move into the objective and win the scenario at the last possible second!

John v. Nicholas

The action in this game was off to a quick start! Turn 2 saw Nicholas' Totenmeister and Axis Zombie combination eliminate Stefan and his Sturmpioniere's!! Though John's Axis units were able to respond to and eliminate the Totenmeister's Zombies before the end of the turn, leaving the hero all alone on the battlefield. Turn 3 saw John finish off Totenmeister, but at the cost of Lara and the Heavy Recon Grenadiers. Nicholas charged Markus and his Axis Gorillas up to the Luther, and successfully eliminated the unit. This action did result in the Axis Gorillas falling to John's firepower, but the turn came to an end with Grenadier X and his Zombies eliminating Sigrid and her Laser Grenadiers. At this point John called the game since he had no chance to reach the objectives by the end of turn 8.

Scenario 6, Descent:

Nicholas v. John

  • Defender:
    John - ALLIES: 250 points
    Rhino - The Priest - BBQ Squad - Death Dealers - Grim Reapers - Tank Busters - The Hammers - Mickey - Pounder
John decided that the Axis weren't doing their job, so he switched to the Allies! Descent is a very intense scenario and the action was off to a quick start! Turn 1 saw the end of the Axis Gorillas, but at the cost of the Allied Pounder, The Death Dealers, and The Grim Reapers. Turn 2 saw Markus eliminated in the first turn, but that left a path for Grenadier X and his Zombies to make a move on Rhino and his Hammers, who dealt a great amount of damage, but were completely eliminated by the undead squad. This left an opportunity for the Mickey to get some kills in Turn 3 when the Walker unloaded its guns to eliminate Grenadier X and his Zombies with a Beobacther unit. The Priest fell before the end of the turn, sacrificing his life to keep the remaining BBQ Squad flamethrower alive. The Heavy Recon Grenadiers finished off the BBQ Rangers and eliminated the Tank Busters in Turn 4. The Mickey stepped up in turn 5 by eliminated Totenmeister's undead unit, and leaving the undead leader on her last leg. By this point the Allies were very close to having the game won. The Kommandotrupp, Lara, and the Heavy Recon Grenadiers did not have any method to destroy the Allied walker. The task fell to Totenmeister, and in Turn 7 she was able to move into position to put the killing blow on the semi-damaged walker, thereby securing victory for the Axis.

This was an intense Allied battle! Turn 2 saw both armies loose Rhino and his squad (Grim Reapers for Justin, The Hammers for John). Justin also lost his Mickey in turn 2, where John lost his Pounder and the solo squad of Grim Reapers. Turn 3 saw John's Death Dealers eliminate Justin's combination of Johnny and his Recon Rangers, but the cost was dear with the loss of John's Priest and BBQ Squad, in addition to the Tank Busters from Justin's attack on John's flank. The Game came to and end in Turn 4 when Ozz and his Grim Reapers were able to finish off both the Pounder and Death Dealers in their activation.
